Best Kid’s Music

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

I’ve been meaning to write some posts about my favorite music finds.  I was hoping I could figure out a better way to post them, in the right column or something.  But it’s proving to be difficult, so I’ll just do it this way for now.  Since a lot of my frequent visitors are mom’s, I’m going to tackle favorite kid’s tunes today.  Please comment at the end and post your favorites as well!
My first selection is “For the Kids.” It features artists such as BNL, Five for Fighting, Cake, and Tom Waitts.  It’s highly amusing and brimming with with musical genius.  I think I shall never tire of these songs.
My second selection is “They Might Be Giants”  Pretty much anything by TMBG.  They came out with a couple of kid’s c-d’s, “Here come the ABC’s” and “Here come the 123’s.”  I bought selections from both off itunes as well as some Giants for myself.  Nice thing with these guys is plenty of their “adult” music appeals to kids as well.  My 2 yr old is partial to “I won’t be ’till my head falls off.”  Now I’ve destroyed my credibility.  Some might argue that John’s voice has the musical tones of a carbon monoxide detector.  I say way to throw the conventional ideas of beauty out the window and go for it with all you got.  They’re just good weird fun.
My third selection is John Lithgow’s “Singing in the Bathtub.”  If you like John Lithgow, you’ll like this.  The guy’s a performer, and the songs are clever and fun.  These, aside from the lyrics, have a more traditional, childlike sound.
Honorable mention; my kids like the music from “Chicken Little.” It’s good for a dance party with the kids, excuse the imagery.
The Curious George soundtrack also deserves a shout out. It’s playful for kids but mellow and enjoyable for adults.  Who doesn’t love Jack Johnson?
I’m going to go ahead and leave the Alvin and the Chipmunks soundtrack off the list as I’m about to put a bullet to my temple.  I’m just not into the hip-hop sound, and the little voices are echoing in my head.  Thanks, Bam Bam.
That’s all for today, folks.

Love at a Gas Station

Have I mentioned I love shooting engagements?  When Danielle told me she wanted to shoot at a dilapidated gas station I was ecstatic to say the least.  You know me, the older and crustier, the better.  She and Caleb were so willing to try anything.  Caleb even suffered a painful injury imposed by ruthless stickers hiding in the gravel and continued on bravely.  Anything for the shot (but don’t be afraid)!   Now to pick a couple of favorites….

Wall Arrangements

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

I hope I am one step closer to creating a personal experience and helping you display your family as art in your home.  I can now create a custom wall arrangement with photos from your session.  I know I have had several clients who had a very hard time figuring out what to order and how to arrange them.  Hopefully this will help you visualize what you can do.  wallarrangement.jpg

I had the opportunity to photograph 4 generations.  It was a lot of fun and the little guy was a good sport.

Practice what you Preach

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

A few weeks ago my first grader took a math test and her friend filled in one that she had skipped.  I told her that the honest thing to do would be to mention that to the teacher.  Her teacher was pleased with her and it was a good lesson learned.  Skip to yesterday.  Kat reminds me of that time long ago when I accidently parked in the handicapped parking.  She proceeded to suggest that maybe if I did something like that and the police didn’t find out, maybe I should tell them.  Hmmm.  The scenarios are frighteningly similar.  I guess the only thing to do is get myself written up.  Although between the two of us we decided severe self-punishment might be an option.  I swear, she’s going to be one step ahead of me my entire life!

Such a Cutie

I have to post little “E” because I have photographed her since she was a newborn. She’s getting so big!  She hammed it up for us and we got lots of grins.  But it was really a nice, casual session which included a bubble bath.  Her mom is always up for anything.  I’ll be looking forward to next time!
